Affect modulation is a trauma therapy technique and is also used in hypnosis. It involves helping clients modulate and deal with their affect related to trauma. Often people have not been able to develop natural and healthy affect modulation skills and so years later they still have problems modeling their feelings and affects. This manifests itself in flashbacks, nightmares or panic attacks, among other things. In these moments, the trauma contents are experienced again. A very important strategy here is the control that the client has today, as opposed to the traumatic situation at the time.
