In principle, there are three states of consciousness that can be clearly distinguished from each other and that we experience in constant change:
the waking consciousness,
the sleep and dream consciousness and
the hypnotic trance.
For hypnosis, the hypnotic trance is primarily interesting. This is a special waking state with specific perception. The whole attention is directed to the subconscious. Depending on the depth of the state of hypnosis and also on the intention, the external environment and also one's own critical thinking are pushed into the background.
