A hypnosis often used in show performances because of its spectacular effects is flash hypnosis. The effect of flash hypnosis is a very quickly effected transition into the trance state. It is also most often doubted as an arranged trick on stage, or as a placebo effect. For the stage and demonstrations, the cataleptic-looking "falling over" technique, in which a standing client literally freezes and falls over into a trance, seems particularly appropriate. The hypnosis therapist, meanwhile, distinguishes lightning hypnosis according to energetic lightning hypnosis (which uses techniques similar to Reiki and Chinese medicine) and lightning hypnosis by confusion and surprise, taking advantage of a short-term increase in suggestibility.
